Medical Information
All student medications are kept in the Nurse’s Office and administered by licensed medical staff. Physician’s orders must be provided for staff to administer prescription medications. You must pick up a form in the Nurse’s Office, to be completed by your child’s physician before medication can be given at school.
Over the counter medications (non-prescription) are kept in the Nurse’s Office and must be accompanied by a Non-Prescription Authorization form from the parent/guardian before they will be administered to the child.
Each child’s immunizations must be in compliance with the Texas Immunization Laws. A written notice will be sent to the parent/guardian when a child is due for immunizations. A designated length of time will be given for the child to be immunized. According to Texas State Immunization Laws, children who are not properly immunized may not attend public schools. Children who have a medical condition or practice a religious belief which prohibits immunizations are the exception to this regulation. A statement from the child’s physician stating that the child cannot be immunized must be presented or legally excepted documentation of exemption for religious beliefs must be presented to school nurse.
CHILDREN WITH FEVER, SEVERE CHEST CONGESTION AND OTHER SUCH ILLNESSES SHOULD BE KEPT AT HOME UNTIL THEY ARE FEVER FREE FOR 24 HOURS WITHOUT THE USE OF FEVER REDUCING MEDICATIONS.
CHILDREN WHO HAVE UNTREATED HEAD LICE CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO STAY AT SCHOOL.
Once a child is treated for lice he or she may return to school. Unfortunately, Head Lice is a very common occurrence in schools and childcare facilities. It must, however, be treated to prevent spreading to others.
If you need assistance in treating the condition or the supplies to do so, please contact our health staff at (903) 737-7469.
Head Lice, please keep your child home from school until he/she is completely treated with a medicated lice shampoo and is free from all lice and nits.
**** Please schedule doctor or dentist appointments for after school so your child can receive the maximum instruction time. If it is necessary for a child to be taken from school during the regular school day, please come to the front office and sign your child out. Office clearance is a must in order to provide a safe environment for children and staff. If your child will be coming to school or returning after an appointment, he or she must have a doctor/dentist note.
